Common Questions

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about spine conditions, surgery, and our centres.

Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) uses specialised instruments and real-time imaging guidance to operate through small incisions, typically 7–20 mm. Unlike traditional open surgery, MISS avoids cutting through large muscle groups, resulting in significantly less blood loss, lower infection risk, reduced post-operative pain, shorter hospital stays (often 24–48 hours), and faster return to normal activity — often within 2–6 weeks.
Surgery is typically considered when: (1) conservative treatments — physiotherapy, pain management, epidural steroid injections — have failed after 6–12 weeks; (2) you have progressive neurological deficits such as leg weakness or bladder/bowel dysfunction; (3) you have severe, unrelenting pain significantly limiting daily activities. Our team always exhausts non-surgical options before recommending intervention.
Most patients are walking within 24 hours of a microdiscectomy and discharged within 1–2 days. Desk-work jobs can typically be resumed in 1–2 weeks. Physically demanding roles and sport require 4–8 weeks. Full biological healing of the disc and surrounding tissue takes 6–8 weeks. A structured physiotherapy programme is prescribed from Day 3 onwards.
Yes — once the bone heals and fusion occurs (typically 3–6 months), the joined vertebrae function as a single unit permanently. Modern fusion hardware (titanium cages and screws) is biocompatible, MRI-safe, and built to last a lifetime. While fusion limits some motion at the treated levels, the adjacent levels compensate well, and the vast majority of patients report excellent functional outcomes.
The majority of spine conditions — 85–90% — respond well to non-surgical care. Our comprehensive non-surgical programme includes precision-targeted physiotherapy, pharmacological pain management, epidural steroid and nerve-block injections, PRP therapy, posture correction, and activity modification. Dr. Venkatesh Dasari's team has successfully treated thousands of patients non-surgically.
